The Austin Mosaic Awards will be held on July 19 to recognize the best of diversity and inclusion in Austin. Ahead of the awards, so we asked Galvanize three questions to show why they embody the best of the diversity and inclusion (D&I) space.
- What are three words that describe you or your team?
- What sets you apart from the rest of the pack?
- What’s your advice to others looking for success in the diversity and inclusion?
What are three words that describe you or your team?
Inclusive, supportive, connectors, fabulous
What sets you apart from the rest of the pack?
Galvanize puts the needs of our members and students above all else. An inclusive community is central to our business model, we strive to create an inclusive community through events and personal connections. Every member is made to feel a part of our community on an individual level and we welcome them to share their own knowledge with other members or students. We support a number of diversity and inclusion events and groups, including the Women’s Health Hackathon, Austin’s Diversity in Tech Group, and ATX Female Founders. We’ve even formed a women’s group for member’s of Galvanize who work at startups who don’t have the resources for affinity groups, with eyes on creating others in the future.
What’s your advice to others looking for success in the diversity and inclusion?
Reach out to someone you don’t know. Often we look at diversity and inclusion within the lens of our friends, coworkers, or communities in which we are already assimilated. Diversity and inclusion are about reaching outside of the normal and comfortable bounds in order to listen, share resources, and lift each other’s communities up, together.
